*Devin “The Dream” Haney showed us Saturday night why he deserves to be on the top of the pound-per-pound list by literally destroying former world champion Regis Prograis at the Chase Center in San Francisco. He picked him apart for twelve rounds and took him through a boxing clinic by using the jab, uppercuts, and excellent footwork throughout the fight, and was never in trouble. Prograis had no answers for Haney and couldn’t back up all the trash talk that we heard from him leading up to Saturday night.
Haney dropped him in the third round with a thunderous right hand to the head and Prograis seemed surprised at Haney’s power.
Folks, I have to tell you something Bill Haney should be characterized now as one of the best promoters in boxing after seeing how he hyped up this fight I don’t think that the great Don King could’ve done any better.
Prograis talked a lot of trash about how he was going to F Haney, but at the end of twelve rounds, all three judges declared Devin “The Dream” Haney the winner and NEW WBC junior welterweight by unanimous decision.
And now that he’s become a two-division champion he’s calling out all of them including Ryan Garcia, and Gervonte “Tank” Davis to step in the ring with him and show him what they got.
Promoter Eddie Hearns spoke at the post-fight press conference and indicated that it’s possible that a mega fight could be made in Saudi Arabia which would generate huge sums of money for Devin Haney against whoever he fights either Garcia or Davis as I always say folks, we’ll see what happens.
There’s another fighter that everyone should look for and his name is Amari Jones who scored an impressive knockout over a game Quilista Madera in six rounds at the Chase Center on the undercard of Haney vs Prograis. Jones who fights in the super welterweight division improved his record to 11-0 with this stoppage Saturday night. He’s a disciple of Haney and is making a lot of noise in the division so be on the lookout for him because he like Haney is young and is getting better every time he fights.
Bill Haney, Devin’s pops, should be listed as a top candidate for trainer of the year on how he has guided his son throughout his career to this point let this writer be the first to say that. But like I always say, we’ll see what happens.
